A Glimpse at the EFL Championship 2024/25: Mid-Season Recap

First thing to remember in our analysis is that we evaluate all the players who played in the EFL Championship 2024/25 until the Mid-Season mark (Matchweek 23 included). In other words, we evaluate and filter the best performers in the league. Assessing all the positions, coupled with the evaluation of a lot of factors and indicators in their games, we can generate the ratings for the players performances. As a matter of fact, in this type of analysis, the type of formation played doesnt influence or limit the ratings system.

Accordingly to our algorithm, Leeds United, Burnley, Sheffield United and Sunderland were the best performing teams. While Leeds was our best team, Burnley also had great dynamics. As shown above, Middlesbrough and West Brom have played really good football, with a Team Average Rating higher than a few teams above them in the league table.

In terms of the best players in the Championship, Pascal Struijk had undoubtedly great performances. Equally, at a really high level, we can spot James Trafford: Burnley’s Goalkeeper has been one of the most consistently improving players in the League. A fun fact about this list is the lack of players from Sunderland despite being one of the best rated teams.

All things considered, the EFL Championship agglomerates and produces a lot of talented young players. Therefore, it’s no surprise that this list includes great players like Callum Doyle, CJ Egan-Riley, Romaine Mundle, Jobe Bellingham, Ben Doak, Wilfried Gnonto and Alfie Gilchrist.

To be sure of who is the most important player in the league, we present our MVP Leaderboard where we conclude who was the player with the most impact on their team on this Mid-Season mark. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the Top 5 of this list are from different teams. Particularly in his first season on the Norwich City squad, Callum Doyle has shown a lot of quality on the field: with 1 goal scored and 5 assists, Callum Doyle has shown that he can be a great Centre-Back & Left-Back in this league.
