NEW SIGNINGS: KOVACIC – MAN. CITY

In a transfer between English clubs, Mateo Kovačić left Chelsea and signed with Manchester City. Despite the poor season that Chelsea had, Mateo Kovačić had really good performances when playing in a Back 5. Additionally, the World Cup performances with Croation showed that Kovačić still has plenty of ability to play for a top team. The ability shown in a Back 5 defense reinforces the idea that Kovačić may be a solid player for Man. City. Nevertheless, looking at the average ratings obtained, the 2022-2023 season wasn’t a bad year in terms of displaying his qualities.

With the conclusion of the season, it is possible to conduct a player analysis that measures which players had the most positive impact on their team as well as the players with the best individual performances during the season. The ratings model that we made allows us to find that out. The players with the highest average ratings during the season are the players that fulfil the premises presented previously. For this analysis, the selected players are required to have a minimum of 1500 minutes over the season, not taking into account the type of defence used nor the position played.

Player of the Season: Ligue 1 22-23.

Through the average ratings obtained, we understand that L. Messi was the player with the highest average rating of this years Ligue 1. In our player standings, we can see that Lionel Messi is followed by his teammates (Kylian Mbappé and Neymar), Rémy Cabella (Lille) and Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon).

The PSG trio had an incredible first part of the season. Nevertheless, this season, Lionel Messi stood out more than the rest.
